The annual Pie Sale and Lunch is a "GO" for 2020 on July 10 from 10:30 to 1:30. Come to the south entrance of the Sidney Middle School and Veterans Park. Enjoy brats, burgers, homemade beans and of course . . . LOTS OF PIES. Take a whole pie home after 12:00 Noon. This year with COVID-19, service will be drive-up only. You can drive up, order from your vehicle, and take your order to go. Businesses can pre-purchase meal or pie tickets for employees, customers, family, friends, and others. Contact Jessica Chamberlin, 406-794-2304. Like all funds raised from the public by a Kiwanis club, 100% of the profits are dedicated to serving children. Zero percent is used for club operations or overhead. The annual apple & pear sale is under way!

On Wed Jan 30th the Sidney Kiwanis Club sponsored another award lunch for about 30 5th graders who were recognized for good behavior as part of the MBI program. David Moore, Rob Pulver, and Leif Anderson put on the program by serving pizza, breadsticks, cookies, and pop along with a trivia contest. ![]() January has been a busy month. Builder’s Club members still continue to recycle paper and newspapers each week. They have partnered with ROI. They have also been selling chocolate and roses to be delivered for Valentine’s Day. This fundraiser will most likely benefit the Boys and Girls Club Teen Center. Ethan met with both 7th and 8th grade members and talked about the teen center. He asked for ideas, concerns, needs, and a wish list. There was a great discussion. Builders Club decided it would like to look into purchasing an item on the students wish list for the new Boys and Girls Club. Builder’s Club members also meet at least once a week to process plastic grocery bags to be repurposed into waterproof mats. There is a need for waterproof mats for refugees and a desire to keep all the bags out of the landfill. Students lay them out flat and then cut off the tops and bottoms. The middle of the bags are tied together to make “playarn” (plastic yarn). They are then weaved to make mats. The tops and bottom of the bags are also used to stuff pillows or stuffed animals. Our students are just processing the bags. After processing here, the bags will be taken to a humanitarian center in Salt Lake City where they will be made into mats. The mats made from the bags our students process will go to Syria and the mountains of Ecuador. Builder’s Club applied money raised in October to benefit the Richland County Library. Mrs. Allen contacted Kelly Reisig at the library and asked if the club could purchase youth adult books. They asked for their “wish list” and for missing books or books needed to complete series. They gave the club a list of 19 books and the club purchased them. When the books come in, the students will go to the library and help them process them. By Tami Christensen Why does the Kiwanis Club of Sidney take tickets at the High School sporting events? The only fundraising a club can do for their administrative expenses has to be done by its own members. Dues can offset all expenses or we can find projects that only our members do. We do ticket taking for the High School to raise money to pay rent, send members to conventions, office expenses etc. Ticket taking is a very easy activity. The first people there pick up the money, tickets, programs etc. from the office. At the events where there is more than one gate the office supplies us with two of everything. Per the request of the school we pull the tickets and keep them to turn back into the office. When the last shift is done someone from the school picks up the money. The best looking members of our club braved the cold to decorate the tree Kiwanis is donating to the Parade of Trees for the Boys and Girls Club. Here is a photo of the "Midnight Star” tree and it’s lovely decorators. Photo credit: Jessica Redfield. Look at Keith. Look at Gary. Look at Bryce. Everybody is happy as Keith Bostrom wins Weekly Bingo in the Amazing Fall Membership Drive. It is easy to understand why Keith is happy. Look at that prize he won. It is the same tool kit that Beagle Properties gives to home buyers as a house warming gift. Having received one of those in the last year, I can tell you, it is a nifty deal. Bring a guest to a meeting during the Amazing Fall Membership Drive to get an additional Bingo card and add to your chances of being happy just like Keith. |
